Weekly Club Notes
We entertained Comber Rec 1sts and 2nds at Drumad on Saturday as our preparations for the new season continued. Honours were even at the end as both games finished in draws, the firsts ended 1 - 1 with our seconds sharing 8 goals at Taylor park.
We rattled the woodwork through Paul Baron early in the first half against a very good Comber side who play in Division 1A of the Amateur league and generally we were the better side in the first period. At the start of the second half Kyle McCleery, our top performer on the pitch, again hit the bar, before on 51 minutes we took the lead. Andy Reilly's corner being punched to the net by the Comber net minder. After this Comber upped the anti and were the better side. They got a deserved equaliser on 82 minutes when Billy Youel collected an errant pass and drove forward before chipping Willie McFrederick for a fine finish.
The seconds led several times against Comber seconds but conceded a late equaliser as the game finished 4 - 4. Our goalscorers were Robbie Regan (2) Paul Benson and Jason Brown who cheekily lobbed the 6' 10" opposition keeper !
The Comber boys plus the supporters enjoyed the craic after the match and a good evening was had by all. The visitors were very impressed with our facilities and our hospitality and we have been invited back to Comber next pre season. Thanks to Enid and the Glencar for the food and refreshments.
The thirds beat Fivemiletown thirds 4 - 1 in Fivemiletown with our goalscorers Nathan Bell, Stephen Henry, Brian Veitch and Jonny Phair.
In midweek our Seconds competed in the Towns Cup against Derrychara United at Drumad. After conceding early, two goals from Lee Glass put us ahead and with 10 minutes remaining we appeared to have retained the Cup successfully. However increased Derrychara pressure finally told as they scored two late goals to lift the trophy.
Because we had no Committee meetings in June and July we had 3 monthly draws at our Committee meeting on Monday night. The winners were:-
